The only real drawback for us was location: I chose this place for being close to Kyoto station, and it was easy to get around from there, but other parts of this huge city may suit travelers who want to be nearer different attractions. We enjoyed local restaurants, Kyoto Sky Tower, Yodabashi Camera and the mall, plus the nearby Don Quijote, which you’ll learn is a staple. My husband and I stayed about four nights and got the traditional Ryokan experience we wanted. The host seemed to be running the family inn on his own, yet he greeted us whenever we arrived or headed out. He was polite, caring, spoke very good English, and cleaned each day while guests were away, including the shared access tub, which was lovely if you chose to use it. The bathroom and shower are shared, but there are only a handful of rooms and everything was clean. Blow dryers, toothpaste, towels, robes, slippers, and shampoo are provided at no charge. We had only the best service and positive things to say about this quaint Ryokan, especially as an easy stop with luggage on a long trip around Japan.

It was an interesting experience as a foreigner, and well worth it. This is more of an inn than a hotel or abb, and it’s cheaper, but there are some rules to follow. We had a decent-sized room with shared toilets and bathroom. It’s near the train station and temples. The host was welcoming and could converse in English. Worth a visit.

The huge temple nearby and walking distance to both kyoto stations made the location great. The owner gave us a friendly, welcoming reception and service. Our room was beautiful and traditional, just what we wanted from the stay. A wonderful little find, and I’d highly recommend it. Thanks for a great stay.

The only small downside for me was the 23:00 curfew, though honestly it didn’t affect my stay. The room was typically Japanese, in a quiet neighborhood despite being near the station. The shower and small pool were amazing, and you can wash and dry clothes there.

It’s a traditional house, and as a tourist I think it’s a great way to experience a real Japanese home. The room was pretty big, and the attention to customers was excellent. A good place for a restful stay if you value peace and quiet. Totally recommended.
