Yadoya Kyoto-Shimogamo

We’ve only just arrived and haven’t spent a night here yet, but I’m already giving it five stars. Our transportation was a bit of a mess, and Hiro, the owner, waited for us. He was welcoming and charismatic, and even introduced us to a tea ceremony. The house is absolutely gorgeous, with a traditional machiya style, an outdoor bath, and such thoughtful decor. Every part seems carefully arranged for comfort and convenience. I’m over the moon happy and will always stay here.

Hiro is incredibly welcoming, and breakfast was a revelation. The hall has a fire pit for your macha, and you’re surrounded by samurai and Japanese memorabilia or family heirlooms. This place feels like a home away from home, traditional yet luxuriously comfortable, and staying here is an experience in itself. It’s a wonderful gem in a quiet residential part of Kyoto that’s still easy to reach. Don’t hesitate, you won’t be disappointed. A treasure. Cristina

We stayed one night with my husband and my mother, who uses a wheelchair. They welcomed us warmly despite our late check-in, and we were comfortable. A slope led to the room, and the toilet had handrails, both very helpful. The bath was roomy enough for my mother and me to use, which I really appreciated. There was parking just a few meters away, and it was lovely to enjoy the warmth of the hearth again after such a long time. I’d definitely stay again if I get the chance.

We spent a week at this guesthouse while traveling around Japan, and everything was tastefully designed. Hiro was attentive and very welcoming. On our first evening he introduced us to the matcha tea ceremony, and each night the children got marshmallows to roast. The breakfasts were excellent, and we enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi every evening. It deserves five stars in every way. Highly recommended. Thank you for your hospitality, Hiro! 😀
