The rooms are pretty big, and the price was low, but I wouldn’t stay here again. There’s no one on site to help, give advice, clean, or hold your luggage. When I had trouble with my suitcase, the person I spoke to didn’t try to help, even though they could have called the company and I don’t have a Japanese phone. The TV didn’t work either. I asked the cleaner for an extra pillow because the single one provided per person was tiny and very uncomfortable. They said to wait five minutes, and I’m still waiting. The towels are thin, and although they give two teas for two people, there’s no refill even if you stay several days. They don’t clean the room, as they say upfront, but the bins were full after a few days. The curtains let in a lot of light, so it’s not a good fit if you need a dark room to sleep. It’s also a bit noisy from the street and elevator, especially if you’re on the first floor. For buses, expect about a 12-minute walk to the most common routes.
A quiet neighbourhood, and the room was clean, modern, and felt new. The bathroom was spacious, and the Wi-Fi worked well. Good hotel!
The room had a microwave, and the heating and AC could be adjusted automatically. I also liked the large bathroom, especially the roomy shower, and the drying setting on the control panel made it possible to hang clothes there. Check-in and checkout were self-service, with a password needed to enter and leave. Since the building is L-shaped, I didn’t hear other rooms on my floor, only the next room’s door when someone left. The alley location also made the residential area quiet. Getting around takes some walking: Kyoto Station is about 20 minutes away on foot, and the nearest options are the Karasuma Line and buses. There’s no supermarket or convenience store in the residential area, and the closest ones are around a 10-15 minute walk. The Venetian blinds let in quite a bit of morning light, so an eye mask would help. There was dust and lint on the bedside table, and some black lint on the sheets. The smaller double rooms feel cramped. A suitcase can only lie flat under the table, and even a 20-inch case makes the aisle hard to use. The sink is small too, so water splashes out easily when washing your hands. The pillows were awful, with the stuffing all clumped up and hard to sleep on. Wi-Fi kept disconnecting, which was really frustrating.
I had a really comfortable stay, thank you. The amenities were good, and the hairdryer was especially nice, so drying my hair was easy. It was very quiet, and the cute paintings added a lovely feel to the place.
We’d seen the negative comments and weren’t sure what to expect, but the place surprised us in a good way. It was very clean and modern, and the rooms were quite large by Japanese standards. We knew ahead of time there wouldn’t be staff on site, so that wasn’t an issue for us. The city center is a 30-minute walk away. I don’t understand the bad reviews.
