The water dispenser is a nice thing Toyoko Inn always has. The room had good climate control and the usual under-bed storage, though the curtains didn't do much to block the light. My biggest issue was how freezing the floor felt. I was on the top floor, and maybe there weren't guests below me or something, but it was like a refrigerator. The heater is up near the ceiling, so even with it turned up, the floor took until the next morning to feel less icy, and didn't feel normal until that evening. Breakfast was very limited, just bread and onigiri. I'd rather they offer only coffee and let me know there's no breakfast, so I could pick something up at the conbini the night before. There's also very little around the station. I should've stayed in Nagahama or Hikone.

We couldn't comment on the rooms because we accidentally booked the wrong Toyoko Inn branch and the hotel was full. The receptionist was very understanding, cancelled the mistaken booking, and arranged a room for us at the nearby Hikone branch instead. We were really grateful for her help, and we'd gladly stay at Toyoko Inn again.

The hotel is only a 3-4 minute walk from Maibara station, and there's a sūpā just a few minutes away on foot. Breakfast each morning was onigiri with a few filling options, a simple salad, and the usual drinks. If your room faces the front, you can watch Shinkansen speed past from the window.

A good choice for visiting Biwa lake, with a convenient location, friendly staff, and a decent breakfast. Highly recommend it.

The room and service are very poor. Don't expect much from the staff. They wouldn't provide an extra pillow, even for a fee.
