Hostel Minka Matsumoto

My stay at Hostel Minka Matsumoto was fantastic. The room was spotless and very comfortable, with everything I needed to relax. The staff were friendly and attentive, and made me feel welcome. It was a perfect place to rest before exploring Kamikochi. I’d highly recommend Hostel Minka Matsumoto in Matsumoto, and can’t wait to come back.

The traditional building, once a restaurant, has a spacious shared area with a kotatsu, a fully equipped kitchen, and a comfortable communal lounge. The tatami style dorm beds were super cozy, and private rooms are available too. Hosts, including Take, are warm, helpful, and knowledgeable. The hostel is very clean and well maintained, with good Wi-Fi and a friendly atmosphere that makes it easy to meet other travelers. It’s only a 3-4 minute walk from Matsumoto Castle and historic Nawate Street, so it suits travelers looking for a relaxed, social base near the sights.

We spent two nights here and would happily stay again if we get to visit again. The traditional rooms were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, and the toilets and shower were very clean. When we had trouble getting into a restaurant, our helpful host booked one for us, which we really appreciated. The castle is also close by.

I spent two nights here with three friends and had a lovely time. The futons and duvets were comfortable, and the heating was adequate. The hostel is in the middle of town, close to restaurants, convenience stores, and an onsen. You can book directly by emailing the owner or manager instead of using other sites.
