We really liked the shared lounge downstairs, where there was free water and hot drinks, plus some drinks like beer for purchase. The coin laundry was affordable and convenient. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely traditional feel. The futons were cozy, and the room's lockbox and refrigerator came in handy. Our private bathroom was downstairs and nicely equipped, with a good shower and Japanese toilet. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast at the on-site cafe, which was tasty and good value, and the staff were very accommodating about my wife's gluten intolerance. The location worked well: about a 20-minute walk from the train station, five minutes from the main shops, and ten minutes from the castle. This ryokan doesn't have some things offered by more premium places, like a hot spring or dinner service, but it was excellent value and better than we expected. We'd definitely book again.

The atmosphere was casual for a Japanese Ryokan, in a good way, and the location made it easy to walk around the town center and to the traino. The staff were lovely and cheerful, always welcoming us back after a day out, and they were helpful and genuine. I'd absolutely stay again.

The rooms are cute, the staff make you feel very welcome, and there are plenty of amenities. It's right on Matsumoto shopping street, too. One of the best places we stayed during our two-week Japan trip. You should stay here if you visit Matsumoto.

We had a really enjoyable stay. The beds were warm and cozy, and the room facilities were lovely. The staff were lovely too. Shops and restaurants are close by, and both the train station and castle are within walking distance. The location is excellent.

On our one-month trip in Japan, this was one of our best stays, maybe the best. The room was spotless and beautiful, the location was perfect, and the service was impeccable. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. We arrived at Nunoya Ryokan with filthy, wet shoes after a rainstorm. She stuffed them with newspaper and set them out to dry, so they were perfectly dry the next morning. It was a real lifesaver. The whole stay was perfect, and we'll absolutely be back!
