Tomitaya Ryokan Bekkan

I found the inn by following the navigation system through a residential area while touring Nagano's national hot spring resorts. My room was clean and near the large public bath, so I could use it whenever I had free time. It may have been because there were fewer guests on weekdays, but I didn’t run into anyone else there and could really relax. Meals were served in my room. Some dishes had a strong smell, depending on the menu, but the cooking was thoughtful and everything was delicious. I’d like to stay here again.

The room was spacious, recently renovated, and very clean, and I found the quiet inn a restful place to unwind. The hot spring bath is small, but there are few guest rooms, so I could enjoy it almost by myself. Getting to the bath means going down stairs, which could be difficult for older guests.

We chose this place for a family stay because its reviews were high and it offered a discount. The room was in water-saving mode, but there weren’t many guests, so we could still relax in the hot spring. I appreciated having meals in the room and being provided with a kettle of boiled hot spring water. It’s a little disappointing that use of the shuttle service is conditional.

It took some searching on the in-room dining site before I finally found this inn. The building is old and easy to get turned around in, but it was very clean, fresh, and clearly well maintained. The food made generous use of local ingredients, many of them new to me, and I was very satisfied. The Shinshu salmon sashimi and Shinshu beef were excellent, and the corn rice was juicy and delicious. Nakai-san must have had a hard time carrying everything to our room, but dining there peacefully without worrying about other people was the best. Thank you. The bath is a hot spring apparently piped from Utsukushigahara Onsen, and being able to use it 24 hours a day was very helpful. I bathed once in the middle of the night and again early in the morning. My Japanese-style futon room was comfortable, with a refrigerator, unit bath, flush toilet, and sink. The room name was written in kanji as "Shobu" (iris), while the key said "ayame" in hiragana. After bathing, I couldn’t find my room and had a laugh about it. I finally opened a door and was relieved to find the owner there. I hadn’t realized the two spellings were pronounced the same, so I looked it up on my phone and felt embarrassed. In the middle of the night, it was like being reincarnated into another world. All in all, it was a very comfortable inn.
