Cheap and close to the station, so it did the job for backpackers. It's a seedy “hotel” that seems to mostly serve the nearby “establishments”.

Good.
Bad hotel.
I booked in a hurry on a business trip in June 2025 because I needed somewhere cheap, but I was really disappointed. The room hit me with a moldy smell as soon as I walked in, and the shower walls had obvious scratches. At night the route from Kokura Station was deserted, with foreigners standing around who seemed to be trying to draw customers to nearby hotels. It gave the area an unsafe feel. Jalan's attractive homepage pictures were misleading, the inside had a completely different, suspicious atmosphere. I'll watch out for this kind of thing next time, even if I'm booking in a rush.
I paid 8,000 yen for what felt like an old public toilet, and the smell was unbearable. It woke me in the middle of the night, and the hallway was even worse. I've stayed in smoking rooms at plenty of other hotels, but this was the worst smelling one I've ever been in. I was especially surprised to find a place this stinky in Japan. The hotel needs to be rebuilt, in my opinion. Staying here for 8,000 yen was torture. The staff service wasn't bad, and I had to give at least one star to post this. Anyone rating it three stars or higher makes me wonder if their home smells this bad or if something is wrong with their nose. Maybe they should see a doctor.
