The grilled oysters at dinner were hard to beat, and the desserts were great as well. Check-in went smoothly thanks to the AI translator at reception, which saved us from any awkward misunderstandings. We were on the fourth floor with an excellent view of Fukuura Island, and the onsen was superb. Thanks for the wonderful service. We’ll definitely return to Matsushima and stay at this onsen hotel again. 👍🏻

We were in the Sekkoku room from 17 to 20 Nov, and kept cutting our sightseeing short so we could spend more time in the marvelous semi-open in-room onsen overlooking the bay. The meals were great, too. Our nakai-san was especially wonderful and gave us excellent service. I hope the ryokan passes along our compliments to her.

We had a great stay and would happily come back. The hot spring area felt a little small, so next time I may try the private bath instead. The hotel’s view was a real highlight, almost like a painting, and Fukuura Island is only a three-minute walk away. There’s also a handy shuttle to the nearby station, which I’d recommend using. The staff were warm and helpful, and had translators available, so getting by was easy. Dinner was a delicious Japanese-Western mix, and the Japanese-style breakfast was just as good. Both meals came in generous portions.

The onsen left my skin feeling silky smooth. The atmosphere was worth a million dollars, and the exquisite food somehow got better every day.

We left some clothes behind, and the hotel kindly sent them to the Sendai hotel where we were staying next, free of charge. They were individually packed and arrived the very next day! Breakfast was amazing every day, too. Great value for money. 🤩
