Business Hotel Taihei Annex

The staff were very friendly and did their best to help me, thank you so much! I was stopping over in Ehime, and the hotel was between JR station and Dogo onsen, about a five-minute walk from the tram station. The building is old, but everything else was fine, and the breakfast was satisfying. The onsen in the main building was disappointing, worn down and not properly managed. Even so, the price was an absolute bargain, and I have no complaints.

I stayed in early November on a room-only plan. For a business hotel, the rate was average or a little above average. Matsuyama Castle was about a 14-minute walk away, and downtown was about 22 minutes on foot. The bathroom faucet's temperature control was still moldy, even though I wasn't expecting room cleaning during a consecutive stay. It seemed like a light scrub with a sponge might have removed it, and keeping it dry even once a week could probably prevent it. It was cold, so I tried turning on the heat, but only the air conditioning came on. The front desk told me they wouldn't switch the heating on until November 5th. Not being able to choose heating or cooling in the room is inconvenient, and having the air conditioning running in November felt incredibly lax. People normally change clothes for the season in early October. Wouldn't a normal hotel switch over much sooner? I think management's slow response was the root of the problem. Their apology came across as half-hearted and insincere, which left me pretty displeased. Their foresight, initiative, and management skills seemed extremely poor. If you're thinking of staying, take all of this into account. Honestly, in that condition, I wouldn't want to spend my own money to stay here again.

The parking cost extra, but I appreciated being able to leave the motorcycle under a roof since it rained overnight. The station was only about a three-minute walk away, which made it easy to take the tram to Dogo Onsen, though the road was quite dark. I was there on a motorcycle tour. There was just one power outlet in the room, which was inconvenient. The air conditioning was controlled for the whole building, so when I switched it on because I was cold, it only cooled the room. There were no non-smoking rooms available, so I got a smoking room. The smell was pretty strong, and even Febreze couldn't get rid of it.

For 1,200 yen, I thought the breakfast was fairly priced, and at 1,000 yen with an advance reservation, it's a really good deal. You can eat the buffet on the second floor of the Taihei Main Building. Reserve when you check in to pay 1,000 yen, or pay 1,200 yen that day without a reservation. There's plenty to choose from, including curry, salad, yogurt, coffee, milk, fried eggs, grilled fish, sausages, bacon, miso soup, yakisoba, and more.
