Hotel Kajiwara

The location worked well for getting around: the tram stop is right by the hotel, with Dogo Onsen accessible by tram and the castle within walking distance. JR station is handy for arriving or leaving, though there isn't much nearby. Staff were good and could hold luggage for early arrivals, even though, as with most business hotels in Japan, they don't really encourage early check-in. My room was only passable, with mold on the window panes and curtains, a damp smell, and a slightly moist carpet. The bed was comfortable and the temperature control worked. The upgraded unit bath was tiny.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the room was spacious, very comfortable, and clean. The price was good too. I stayed for two nights and found the location ideal, close to both JR Matsuyama station and Iyotetsu station. I'd definitely come back.

For what the hotel offers, it feels expensive and doesn't give good value for money. The place is dated and small, and the whole property badly needs refurbishing. Its prime location made me hope for more, but honestly it didn't impress. In Japan's competitive hotel scene, this one feels like a dinosaur, and little more than a place to spend the night.

The rooms were okay, and breakfast was okay too. The building looks a little old. Matsuyama station is very close, though there aren't any convenience stores nearby.
