Our room’s carpet was stained. At checkout, the staff said we hadn’t paid, and we had to show the credit card receipt to convince them. They didn’t apologize.

A good location, but the hotel is outdated and very basic, with no frills. The restaurant staff didn’t appreciate being asked to refill my coffee. A year later, it still seems convenient but way overpriced, with surly restaurant management. I wouldn’t recommend it.

A little dated, but the price is good and includes a breakfast buffet.

We would have left after the first night if we could have found somewhere else. Sky Hotel was easily our worst hotel experience in Japan. The room was uncomfortable from the start: cold bedding, no extra blankets, and hard pillows that made sleeping difficult. Heating was off even though the day only reached about 14°C, and there was no sugar for tea or coffee. From around 6 a.m. on Sunday, the service lift made a constant, loud clanging sound, like metal being banged over and over. The hotel’s “hygiene” policy meant rooms weren’t cleaned and rubbish wasn’t removed during the first three nights, which felt anything but hygienic and really hurt our stay. The location wasn’t ideal either. It’s near the JR station, but there’s little else nearby. We stayed all three nights. Terrible place!

The building is a little old, but the hotel was very clean and comfortable during my two-night business trip. The front desk staff were cheerful and welcoming. There was an apprentice (?) working at night who seemed a bit unfamiliar with the service, but his natural, pleasant manner more than made up for it. The kindness of everyone at the hotel helped make my first visit to Matsuyama such an enjoyable trip. I was struck throughout my stay by how cheerful local people were, and I’m grateful to the staff for that warm experience. JR and tram lines are close and easy to reach, though government offices and downtown, the city’s main functions, require taking one of them. The tram is comfortable and not too crowded, and the hotel is near both the city center and Dogo Onsen.
