Hotel Todai

The price was unbelievably low, ¥3,500 a night, paid in advance with PayPay. Nearby hotels cost about twice as much, so I’d definitely come back in the same situation. Maybe tourists avoid this place because it looks a bit suspicious? LOL I stayed two nights and three days, arriving the day before I had a qualification-related requirement in Onomichi, about 20 minutes away one way, on the morning before Christmas. The restaurants apparently aren’t operating right now, but there’s an Aeon about a two-minute walk away. Parking is available, though it’s first-come, first-served. The building is old, but seems to be cutting staffing and costs reasonably. It was still within acceptable limits, especially for the price, even for that time of year.

Check-in had staff there, while check-out was unmanned. I found the hotel about a 7-minute walk from Mihara Station in Hiroshima. Both the exterior and interior have a distinctive character, and there’s plenty of parking. The TV in the room is very small, and the unit bath has some taste to it, though either could bother you if you mind those things. It’s reasonably priced, and I’d recommend it if you’re looking for good value accommodation.

You can watch the Shinkansen pass from here, so it could suit people who enjoy that. For a budget hotel in Mihara, this is probably the best bet. It’s a retro place with a long history. Parking is beneath the overpass or behind the building, though finding it might confuse first-time guests.

For less than 4,000 yen, it’s a great deal. The hotel is old, but kept clean, and the front desk staff are helpful and do their best. They’ll even point out nearby places to eat and bento shops.
