Hotori in Minakami was such a good time. The owner and staff were really kind and helpful. Having a coworking space and guest house together is so practical for nomad travelers, and the partnerships with a coffee place for breakfast and nearby onsens are a nice way to discover the city and build a sense of community. Hope I can come back!

There’s barely a way to brush your teeth or take a shower here. The walls are so thin that everything carries, and at 6:45 we were already hearing guests, several alarms, and the loud coffee machine. You have to make your own bed, and the sheets felt poor quality. There was a big hole in the blanket, too. Self check-in meant nobody greeted us, which I really dislike, and we probably wouldn’t have seen anyone during the whole stay.

The location in downtown Minakami is great, and it’s easy to walk here from the train. There are lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. The hostel and working space was clean, well maintained, quiet at night, and a bargain for the price. The staff were super friendly. Lovely hostel!

It was simple, but suited me well. The bunks felt private, and the other guests kept to the quiet hours.

Really affordable and in a very good location, so I have no complaints. There’s no shower, but an onsen is only a one-minute walk away. It closes at 8 pm, so make sure you get there before then.
