Yado Kanzan

The shakuhachi performances at night were so moving they brought us to tears. After just one day at Yado Kanzan, my wife was already planning another visit. We spent our honeymoon here, and the private hydrogen-rich onsen with a view of Mt Tanigawa was a highlight. The staff were welcoming, funny, and understanding, and the facilities were clean and practical. Dinner and breakfast were spectacular, with so much variety and such complete, delicious flavours that we felt like royalty. Thank you to the whole Yado Kanzan team for an incredible experience.

The bathroom is shared, but you can lock it while you use the shower or hot spring and have the whole room to yourself. They’ve kept the place spotlessly clean and welcoming. They even wiped the wheels of our suitcases when we checked in. The food made us really happy. The award-winning dinner and breakfast were generous, made with fresh ingredients, and the flavours felt thoughtfully put together. If you stay more than one night, they apparently let you request a different main dish. There were also little red bean paste buns in our room, available to buy at the inn. I’d never had that texture before, so soft and chewy, and they were really tasty. They may only make them that day. This is a lovely small inn with very attentive Japanese hospitality.

Dinner and breakfast were wonderful, and the dishes looked as lovely as the food tasted. The building isn’t new, but it’s well cared for, and even the public bath and bathroom were kept clean. We also appreciated the free coffee and tea, plus the Japanese comics and table games. Very clean, beautiful, and welcoming.

The hosts were so welcoming, and at check-in they had a script and translation device for speaking English. It worked quite well. Everything was perfectly clean, and the baths were delightful. Our room was super comfortable and we slept really well. I can’t find the words for how delicious dinner and breakfast were. Every bite brought a fantastic new burst of flavour. It was worth every penny, and I wish we’d stayed longer. I’d give it more stars if I could!
