Dinner came right to the room, including a boat-shaped platter for one, and there was also a plan with abalone and spiny lobster. I really liked the simple sake-steamed abalone, which let its flavor come through. The hotel is right by the Pacific, about a 20-minute walk from either Chikura Station or Chitose Station on the JR Uchibo Line. It has that old Showa-era ryokan feel, though the building is cared for and the bathrooms are clean. Rooms are Japanese-style, air-conditioned, and have traditional refrigerators. The hot spring bath is large, with a wide ocean view. The shower taps are stiff and the water pressure is weak. I also wondered whether the men's bath can be seen from the coast. I understand the women's bath has been redesigned.

The breakfast setup was a letdown. It was separated by a partition, and there was a big stain on the tablecloth. The rice cooker beside it didn't feel sanitary. The building is very old, and the small room entrance doors were hard to spot, so I ended up going back and forth down the corridor several times. The indoor-only public bath was lukewarm. I stayed in for quite a while, but felt cold once I came out into the changing area. Still, the Japanese staff were around whenever I needed them, which made me feel comfortable. When I called to say I would be late checking in, they kindly told me to take my time and enjoy myself.

I hope they might consider a smaller gourmet dinner option. The portions are quite generous, and during an extended stay last year I couldn't finish everything on the second day. Since many guests seem to be older, a smaller serving could be welcome. The place has a cozy Showa-era atmosphere, and both meals were delicious. I loved the hot spring view and went in five times during my one-night stay. Everyone on staff was warm and friendly. I'd definitely come back.

The sunrise seemed visible from the changing rooms and the men's bath, so it would be useful to have some information about that. In November, though, trees blocked it from the women's bath. We ate dinner in our room. The well-known boat-shaped sashimi platter wasn't especially big, but the side dishes made the meal filling and tasty.

The sea is right nearby, and the ocean view from the bathroom was amazing. Dinner was a luxurious Funamori, and breakfast had lots of dishes that went well with rice. It was my first stay, and the staff were so kind. The building is a little old, and the room entrance is low, so taller people should watch their heads. I went shopping at a nearby pharmacy, but there aren't many streetlights at night. The shop signs along the way provide most of the light, so take care. There's a vending machine by reception on the first floor.
