The Chikura Umi Base Camp

I was traveling in my camper and didn’t stay overnight, but I had a great time stopping here for lunch.

I only stopped in for a coffee, but it has a very trendy glamping-hotel feel right by the beach.

The staff were very polite, but I was freezing the whole time, and the stay was disappointing in a lot of ways. The kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom were separate, so we had to go outside to move between them. In the cold winter weather that was a real hassle. There was no heating in the concrete kitchen or bathroom, and they felt as cold as outside. I ended up catching a cold. Better temperature control would have helped a lot. We’d booked for three, but there weren’t enough duvets, so we all squeezed together in one bed. The kitchen drain was clogged, too. They asked us to help with the dishes, and although we did wash them, we didn’t really have time. It had been my first trip in a while, so it was a shame it turned out this way. I regret not going in spring or autumn, though it’ll still be a memory. 🥲

The staff were all cheerful, kind, and wonderful, and that made me really happy. My boyfriend and I stayed for two days and one night, and we had such a lovely time. We borrowed bikes for free and enjoyed riding around. Baking pizza in the pizza oven was fun, too. The sea was only a minute's walk away, so we dipped our feet in, then set off handheld fireworks at night and really felt the summer. The sauna felt professional, and having a loyly was amazing.
