The cat was innocent in all this, so I’m giving one star for the cat. As a place to stay, though, zero stars. At ¥3,960 a night in April 2026, it felt like an ordinary house rather than a ryokan, and it was cluttered like a hoarder’s home. I couldn’t see any sign that guests were being welcomed. The bathroom and washroom looked like something from a TV show about a big family home. Anyone even a little particular about cleanliness would find it unbearable. I couldn’t bring myself to use the bath.

You might get lucky and have the mascot cat come tuck you into bed at night, but I didn’t meet him on this visit. The place feels more like an ordinary home than a relative’s house. They apparently no longer serve food or drinks, and there isn’t anywhere nearby to eat or drink. The convenience store and yakiniku restaurant near Shizaki East Exit are about a 20-minute walk away. I skipped the seafood restaurant at the Hado Misaki intersection because it doesn’t accept solo diners and its online reviews are terrible.

I first came here for fishing because it was the cheapest place, and now it feels like my second home, lol. It’s my regular fishing spot. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes cats and doesn’t get irritated easily.

The room had a kotatsu, air conditioning, and an electric blanket, so it was warm and comfortable. But what made the stay special was the grandmother who owns the place. She was incredibly kind and made me feel at home. There were four lovely cats, all friendly and soothing to be around. They even shared their ice cream with me, which was such a thoughtful gesture. I hope the grandmother stays healthy and happy for a long, long time. I’d love to come back someday. It was an unforgettable experience.
