The food tasted good and seemed to be good quality, but there wasn’t anything in particular that stuck in my mind. Dinner is part of the ryokan experience, too, and that side of things needs work. There were flies and other flying insects in the shared dining area. That felt unhygienic, and it was hard to focus on eating while waving them away from the food. Also, regardless of language ability, the foreign staff need more training in service. Language can be learned easily, but service needs training if it’s going to improve. I understand that I shouldn’t complain too much given what I paid, but this felt like a bit much. I’ve stayed at places in a similar price range that did a lot better. I hope things improve, and wish you the best.

The hot spring water is on another level, and the food is fantastic. There’s so much sashimi, and it’s fresh enough that you could have a full meal with just that and rice. I really enjoyed the flavors of Southern Izu, including spiny lobster, abalone, and splendid alfonsino. They offer a solo travel plan, so it’s easy to book on a whim. The rooms have been renovated and are very clean, and the beds are comfortable, which helped me recover from being tired. I definitely want to go back.

There’s almost nothing around the ryokan, and that’s part of the charm. You’re surrounded by mountains, fields, and nature. A roadside station and a Family Mart are about a two-minute drive or 15-minute walk away, so it’s worth buying snacks before settling into your room. Once you sit down, you may not feel like getting back up, haha. There’s a drink vending machine, and they sell alcohol too. My room had an open-air bath with a lovely atmosphere. The shower room was at the front on the right. The water was very hot near the top and a little lukewarm near the bottom, but mixing it made the temperature just right. There’s a mountain right in front, so no worries about being seen. Yay! The room felt restful, the meal was delicious, and the staff were very polite and kind. They served fish instead of meat, so keep that in mind if you’re in the mood for meat. It’s easy enough to come from the station by bus, but if you’re driving, the parking lot can be hard to spot at first and is a little way away. Enjoy the quiet and the scenery. I had a really pleasant time and will come again.

I stayed one night without meals for the first time. The place isn’t flashy, but it was clean throughout, with a calming interior. Being able to use the laundry for 300 yen was helpful. The staff were pleasant, and I could relax. I didn’t try the food, but I bet it’s delicious. The open-air bath was lukewarm at night. I mentioned it, and by morning the temperature was just right. I’d like to come back.

I booked a room with an open-air bath supplied directly from the spring. The staff were really kind and shared lots of useful travel tips. Since I visit Izu often, the local information was especially helpful. The food, service, facilities, and hot springs were all excellent.
