Dinner was a real highlight both nights. We had shabu shabu with lovely local pork and wagyu on the first evening, then yakiniku with flavorful, rich local red beef the next. The kids slept on futons in their own tatami room, and we found the beds comfortable. Having our own private onsen to unwind in each night was such a treat. We also felt well looked after when an earthquake hit the region during our visit. The staff stayed professional and helped us feel safe. They speak excellent English and were very accommodating. The setting is beautiful, though the narrow road in could be tricky for a new driver after dark. Since dinner was included, we usually drove back before nightfall. Definitely recommend.

Soaking in the outdoor bath after a day of driving and sightseeing was the best part for me. There are indoor and outdoor baths, and the outdoor one felt especially peaceful, like a little escape. The food was another big plus: dinner and breakfast were both delicious, and the friendly, patient waitress explained each dish so we could appreciate the local flavors. We chose this place as a base between Aso and Kyushu Wildlife Park African Safari, and it worked perfectly. Kurokawa Onsen is about a 10-minute drive away, and we enjoyed exploring its beautiful, charming town. The accommodation was comfortable and had a lovely atmosphere for our family. For our Northern Kyushu road trip, it was a great place to come back to, with relaxing baths, good service, and excellent meals.

The room, food, view, and private onsen were all lovely, and the staff were friendly. Getting there through the snowy forest felt a bit like Silent Hill, but once we arrived, wow. Walk up the hill for a great view and some photos.

We came as a family and really enjoyed having our own onsen to spend time in. The little houses feel like cozy cottages, and the food was incredible, with lots of variety and a high-end dining feel.

A very quiet ryokan, and having our own lodge gave us plenty of privacy. The private onsen was great, and breakfast was really nice.
