The rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The restaurant is good and focuses on grilled beef. This is a very small spa town, though, and everything shuts by 8 pm, so get there early. The onsen is very traditional, which wasn’t quite my thing, but it might suit you.

I couldn’t reserve dinner at my onsen, so I ate at their restaurant, Fufu Shokudo. It’s a charming, family-run place. When I visited, the only dish they had was aka-gyu don, basically a bowl of rare steak topped with two eggs. I ordered the large and devoured it. They served wasabi on the side, which was delicious with the beef. It also came with miso soup and pickled vegetables. I was very happy with the meal.

The red meat bowl was great, and around noon I didn’t have to wait. I ordered and finished it quickly. Maybe the short wait was because it was summer and not a typical holiday season. It was way too hot!!

A nice traditional onsen with private rooms.

I could relax in the semi-private room, and the food was delicious. The service was excellent, so I left very satisfied. I had plans the next morning and couldn’t have breakfast, but since I’d told them when I needed to leave, they prepared takeaway coffee for everyone. That was really thoughtful, and I’d definitely come back. This was my first stay at the inn. I arrived early, checked in, and was welcomed with tea and sweets. The room was clean, quiet, and relaxing, with the river audible nearby. The inn’s bath was under repair, so I couldn’t use its hot spring, but they gave me a pass for other inns. I visited a famous inn’s baths and, by chance, had both the indoor and outdoor baths to myself for about an hour, even though it was the weekend. The pass also came with complimentary items, such as a free beer voucher or drinks. The other inns’ baths could be confusing: some had no showers, some were women-only, and some closed to visitors at 3 pm. The hot spring pamphlet clearly explains the pass, so it’s a good idea to check it before heading out.
