The wallpaper had tears that nobody had fixed, and the old carpets throughout the building were dirty and smelled bad.

We played the Matsu and Kusunoki courses, with a full round in the morning followed by a buffet lunch. Everyone seemed to enjoy the meal. The course is fairly short, with a few par 4s under 400 yards, but it isn’t especially narrow and the greens are lovely. Some par 3s stretch to 150 yards, which adds an interesting challenge. Yamato Kogen has the advantage if you want a broad course and room to drive and make the most of your distance. Lake Forest is a good pick if you’re looking to sharpen your skills.

At 5,000 yen on weekdays with a buffet included, this is one of the courses I appreciate as a golfer on a budget. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been often, but I hope they put the Uji tea-covered fried chicken back on the lunch buffet menu.
