Hotel Mermaid

I stayed on a weekday in March 2026 for about ¥8,600. Check-out was at noon, so I could take my time. The room was roomy, with a sofa and chairs, and windows by the bed and in the bathroom brought in daylight. That helped avoid the closed-in feeling I associate with love hotels and let me see the weather. The bed felt a little hard, though that’s personal preference. There’s a two-door fridge with freezer, microwave, kettle, and hair dryer. Toiletries included cleanser, facial wash, lotion, emulsion, a T-shaped razor, toothbrush, brush, cotton balls and swabs, hair cap, body sponge, and bath soap. Condoms are available to buy. The main drawback was the strong cigarette smell as soon as I walked in. An air purifier would have helped. People sensitive to tobacco smell might find it tough, but otherwise I was comfortable. There aren’t restaurants nearby, though a 7-Eleven is a three-minute walk away and JA Yokohama Farmers Market is two minutes by car, with fresh vegetables, bread, raw meat, and more at low prices. On Sunday afternoons, traffic on the uphill stretch of the national highway in front gets very heavy.

I regretted staying here. The older woman at reception looked me in the eye and handed me a discount coupon for next time right when I came in, lol. I’d paid extra for a room with a massage machine, but the toilet had no door and sat right beside the sink, making it feel far too exposed. I don’t think that setup is suitable for women. The room was spacious, but had a pointless slot machine. There was complimentary water in the fridge, but it was frozen solid when I tried to drink it. There were plenty of other problems too, which you’ll see for yourself.

I felt scammed. I showed a 30% off coupon at reception and paid 10,000 yen up front, assuming I’d get the money back later. At checkout, the in-room payment machine wouldn’t open the door until I paid there too, so I called the front desk because I’d been charged twice. They said the coupon I’d handed over was unusable and that they’d given me a new one, even though the one they gave me was valid. When I pushed back, they said I hadn’t been given a coupon and that I had it now. I returned it with the room key, but they insisted they hadn’t received it and only refunded the full price. If I hadn’t spoken up, I think they would have kept the 10,000 yen. I think a police report would get the place shut down right away.

There aren’t many business hotels in Yokosuka, so I widened my search and chose this one. Glad I did. The bed and bathroom were spacious and comfortable, and having a microwave was handy. It seems you just need to call the front desk before heading out.
