Shima Kanko Hotel The Classic

It's a beautiful hotel with a French restaurant, and the service is excellent. They have table tennis and yoga too. Just keep in mind, it's not an onsen hotel.

I spent a few quiet days here to get away from the city. The rooms were well equipped, with outstanding views across the waterways and islands, and the resort has fitness and spa facilities plus excellent dining. Nearby, there's a historic fishing and pearl-cultivating village serving local food. The large grounds are kept peaceful and tidy, with many paths past greenhouses, a small shrine, seating areas, and contemporary bronze works honoring poetry about Kashikojima's beauty. At night there's little city light around, and the powerful roof telescope lets you see Jupiter and make out four of its larger moons. The hotel has its own dock too, where you can join a guided boat tour around the small islands and pearl farms. No wonder the Imperial Family visit, and that the secluded 2016 G-7 Summit was held here.

The views and surrounding nature are stunning, especially the sunset from the hotel lounge terrace. The restaurants are quite nice, and the lounge is a lovely spot for a drink while taking in the scenery. I was pleasantly surprised by the rooms, which are very nice, with excellent views in some. The pajamas they provide are a fun touch and really comfortable. The hotel makes a point of highlighting the G7, but it's a very nice place in its own right too.

We stayed one night with breakfast, and I'd happily return. The staff are trained well and provide high-quality service. All guests can use the lounge, where we enjoyed coffee and snacks. The location and views are great, and the sunset from the hotel was amazing. Breakfast was delicious and a little different, with a choice of Western or Japanese style. They recommended the Western option, and the Eggs Benedict was great.
