SUZUKAKE - Adult Only

The water and dust problems made this one-night stay in room 201 hard to accept. We paid 13,500 yen, which seemed a little expensive but still within reason. Other reviews had been awful, but since they were a year old, I hoped things had improved. They hadn't. The water in both the bath and sink was brown, and I couldn't bring myself to bathe or brush my teeth. My wife is allergic to house dust, and she kept sneezing and itching all over. With the bath unusable for us, we paid 13,500 yen for the night without being able to use it. There was dust throughout the place, cobwebs in the room corners, and the TV remote had dead batteries. The old phone charger didn't work either. From outside, the renovation makes the place look nice, so I wish they'd paid more attention to the details inside. I hope they properly fix the water and cleaning issues.

The 12,900 yen charge for a late arrival at 9:30 pm and checkout the next day felt steep, especially since the website listed a flat 8,300 yen. I left feeling cheated. They take cards, but add a 5% service charge, and the refrigerator is small if you're bringing drinks. I was in room 201, visiting from out of town and using it instead of a business hotel. The renovation was okay and there was free Wi-Fi, but the bath's water heater was set too low. On a cold day I was hoping for a hot soak, and got only lukewarm water. It felt like they were being stingy. A public bath in town would be a better bet. Be careful if you use this hotel.

I left angry and don't want to give this place even one star. The prices were first-rate, while service and hygiene were third-rate. Since it's the only love hotel in Miyako City, I thought maybe they can set the terms however they like when there's no competition. I won't come back. A minus rating would be enough. The water was brown from the start. When I began filling the white bathtub, the cloudy color stood out, and running it for a while didn't clear it. I ended up adding bath salts to disguise it and putting up with the bath. The shower water was brown too, as was the water and hot water at the sink. I didn't want any of it in my mouth, so I brushed my teeth with bottled mineral water from a convenience store. I'd never experienced anything like that. In the morning, around 8:00, no water came from any of the faucets, including in the bathroom and toilet. I called the front desk and was told they'd handle it right away. Hot water returned shortly after, but it was even browner than the night before. They said they'd cleaned the pipes, but cutting off the water without telling guests seemed wrong. The water quality was worse, and even running it for a while didn't help. I had to use mineral water to brush my teeth again, then got ready quickly and left. The room itself was dirty too. The toilet seat didn't look cleaned, there was lots of hair by the bathroom drain, and moving the bed pillow sent someone's hair falling off. There was dust piled up around the room and trash here and there. I was furious, thinking, “Do they clean this place? I paid 12,900 yen!” That was after the argument over the price. I was told room 201 had recently been renovated, and the booklet's price list showed 9,800 yen for Friday. The stay had to be paid in advance, and since there were no automatic machines, a front desk staff member came to the entrance to collect. Soon after, I got a call saying the room was 12,900 yen. I called the staff member back and pointed out the printed Friday rate. They replied that it was wrong, that the price had always been 12,900 yen, and it must be a printing error, in a condescending tone and without apologizing. We argued back and forth over the 3,100 yen difference. I had no idea about the supposed ongoing price. The list is what a guest has to go by. If it was misprinted, they should have corrected it properly and at least apologized. I eventually paid 12,900 yen, and they never apologized at all.

The room had a pretty bad smell, and there were loads of stink bugs on the windows.
