Aruflat (Miyakojima)

The part I remember most from my nine-night, ten-day trip was this three-night stay. I’d also stayed in more upscale places, but this one stood out. The owners were warm and suggested nearby spots that felt like hidden gems. They made me a filling, delicious breakfast every morning. The room was clean and cared for, and I slept well. It was convenient to have a washing machine, bathtub, drying rack, and fridge. They also lent me water bottles, flippers, and life jackets. If I come back to Miyakojima, I’d gladly stay here again.

We spent three nights in a roomy Western-style room, decorated in white and Miyakojima blue. There was plenty of space for the washer and bathroom, too. Breakfast was a different selection of Japanese dishes each day, made with local ingredients. The owners were friendly and made the inn feel comfortable. They also had a full snorkel set, wetsuits, seat covers, a small cooler, towels, and other things ready for us, and shared tips on places to go and what was current. We’ll definitely stay again.

We come back to aruflat every year. It’s a relaxing place to stay, and we always leave feeling we’ve had a good time on the island. The owners and his wife are a big part of why I love it. They’re welcoming, and the locally sourced breakfasts are delicious. When guests from the Western-style rooms join us for breakfast, the owners often join the conversation too. It’s fun to trade tips, and those happy reunions between returning guests seem like something special to aruflat. My family first stayed in a Western-style room, but since then we’ve always chosen a Japanese-style room. There’s one of each, as well as a whole building for private rental. I like being able to stretch out and relax on the floor. Everything is kept clean, which makes the stay comfortable. As a couple, we spend our days at the beach from morning until evening, and it’s handy that the beaches we visit are easy to reach from here. Having a washer means we can wash and dry our swimsuits each day.
