Guesthouse Miyakojima

There aren’t many restaurants or shops nearby, and quite a few close early. The owners can’t really be blamed for that, though. Inside, it’s a lovely, affordable, clean place to stay, close to the beach and with lots of gear available to rent, including bikes, diving equipment and windsurfing gear. From the outside it may look a little questionable, but inside there are lots of extras.

I finished the 100km safely and was very satisfied with my stay. I was in the village for the Wideo Marathon and spent two comfortable nights thanks to the kind, friendly owner, Mr. H. The nearest A-Co-op? was interesting too, with lots of local people going there. Mr. H, I hope I can stay with you again. (^O^)/

I booked this guest house for a week, from August 27 to September 3. Before I’d even seen the room, I asked the owner to arrange and charge me for the shuttle bus pickup from the airport and the return trip. What I found when I arrived was a tiny space barely wider than a closet. If I’d opened my suitcase, it would have taken up the whole room. The lighting was nowhere near adequate by today’s standards, and the air conditioning didn’t cool at all. The dark wooden walls made the room feel even darker. It was poorly cleaned, with cockroaches, mosquitoes and other unidentified bugs around. The adjoining garden was a neglected jumble of things, with beach items dumped about. I left after five minutes without using any services and looked for somewhere else. Thanks to the kindest taxi driver on the island, I found a clean room on the fifth floor for almost the same price, with all the comforts a person should have. I asked the owner of Guest House Miyakojima to refund at least part of what I’d already paid. He refused, attacked me in the Booking chat, and then stopped replying. He wouldn’t even refund the pickup fare for the ride I hadn’t taken. Since I’d left right away without using anything, he could have, and I believe did, give the room to other customers. What happened to me felt like a real scam. Please be wary.

When I stayed in February 2024, a room only cost 3,300 yen a night. It was a private room, not a dorm, and the shower was separate. The building is old, but the rooms are clean.
