Hotel Locus

The price is very cheap, so I'd stay here again, though next time I might book a larger room. We picked it because it looked centrally located, and the stay was okay but nothing special. Our room was very small, making it hard to move around, but the bed was comfortable and every room faces the sea. We skipped breakfast because 2000 yen per person seemed a bit much. There is a laundry machine, though the dryer wasn't very effective and it took a long time to get our clothes dry.

The front desk staff were friendly and even gave us popsicles, which was a nice touch. The hotel is close to the port and has a pleasant view, but our room felt cramped. There was an unpleasant smell in both the room and bathroom when we first entered. Once the air conditioning was running, it got much better. If you arrive late, keep in mind that the second parking area is about a five-minute walk from the hotel.

The friendly employees, good-smelling lobby, and herbal tea were the few positives for me. Almost everything else was frustrating. The room was dirty and had a strange smell. The shampoo ran out on my second day, there was only a small selection of toiletries and no lotion, and the room had herbal tea but no coffee. There were no tea refills, even for a stay of more than two nights. The whole room felt like a prison cell, with grey walls and cold concrete floors at night. Its small size was about half that of most Miyakojima hotel rooms. The stained little carpet under the table didn't help. Furniture and the block-like wooden trash can were heavy and awkward to move. Every morning from 7 a.m., I could hear staff dragging metal furniture across the concrete while cleaning other rooms. The walls were thin enough that I heard neighboring doors opening and closing. The old-fashioned car-style room key was hard to use and also had to be inserted to keep the electricity on, so I couldn't leave things charging while I was out. Losing it would cost 25,000 yen. The room door latch was broken. The check-in tablet froze, and paper and pen would have worked better. The elevator was dirty, had spiders in it, and its buttons were grimy and painful to touch. In the lobby bathroom, the bidet's Stop switch was broken, so the spray wouldn't stop. Breakfast was disappointing too. The scrambled eggs were undercooked and porridge-like. At 5 a.m., loud beeping from ships unloading cargo echoed through the room. The buffet cups had uneven, wobbly rims that made spills hard to avoid. There are only 15 parking spaces for more than 30 rooms. The overflow lot was hard to find and very far away. The concrete floors, poor room condition, and all these inconveniences made for a miserable stay.

For our first visit to Miyakojima, this was a perfect place to stay. The service and room were great, and the hotel felt very modern. We had a corner room, which gave us a bit more space for our five-night stay. The location was great too.
