Hotel Risingsun Miyakojima

It was a clean, simple, pretty average hotel, though it could use a few more things, like USB outlets. It’s very close, and there’s an airport bus, but it only runs a few times a day. We took a taxi for 10 euros. I’d pick a different location next time.

The hotel itself was fairly average, but breakfast had an amazing selection. There are lots of good restaurants and shops right across the street, and I’d suggest trying them during your stay.

The facilities were new, and the housekeepers cleaned thoroughly and pleasantly. What stood out most to me was the deputy general manager’s sincere response: he listened carefully to our circumstances, asked the company to make a decision, and got back to us that same day. The company’s management decision was quick too. A foreigner accompanied the person, and an issue specific to the person arose for religious reasons. I thought the on-site staff deserved credit for simply following the rules. The front desk and reception staff greeted us cheerfully and loudly whenever we came or went. One young woman even bowed deeply as she entered the lift and the doors closed. The staff seemed well trained, and the assistant general manager was sincere. This is one of the few best hotels I’d return to and recommend to others.

I had a great stay, from the kind staff to the functional room, ocean view, and good value. I slept well, and there’s an alarm you can set yourself. The optional breakfast buffet is inexpensive and amazing, especially the cappuccino. The hotel isn’t on the beach or very close to it, but renting a car is a good option, and the local bus stops right outside. If you’re on a tight budget, there’s a 24-hour grocery store across from the hotel, plus FamilyMart, McDonald’s, and Yoshinoya. There are also two bookstores and an electronics shop for the nerd in you. Language wasn’t a problem for me, but one thing I learned on this island is to be patient. Enjoy your time and stay.
