Ocean Front Miyakojima

The view from the room was pretty nice. We could see a brightly lit cruise ship and part of the Irabu Bridge. The receptionist also gave us a bath towel and hand towel, even though the reservation said towels weren’t included. The room had a washing machine, gas stove, knives and rice cooker, plus a separate fridge with a freezer. I could’ve cooked if I’d had the time, and the hallway even smelled good from someone’s cooking. This place rents out studio apartments, as other reviews say. Check-in at the office next door was oddly casual: nobody was there at first, then someone showed up and called to the back that a guest had arrived. I’d booked a double for extra space, but got a triple room with two single beds and a sofa bed instead. The bathroom mirror was dirty, there were drops on the sink, and the bin was wet, as if it had just been washed. The biggest issue was the weak air conditioning. It did run, but the whole room stayed hot and I was soaked in sweat. The unit in the replacement hotel was set at 24.5℃ and felt cool, while the original room had been set at 19℃, so I suspect its air conditioner has deteriorated. I called reception, was asked to ring a mobile number, and then spoke with someone who seemed to be the owner. They took the problem seriously and arranged another nearby hotel because there were no oceanfront rooms free. The way they handled it earned my appreciation and is why I’m giving four stars. There were several things to criticize, but with proper maintenance I think this could become a good hotel.

Clean, and seems like a great option for divers. There’s a washing machine, a fridge, basic cooking facilities, and lots of handy hangers.

The location was a real plus. It was great for sunrise or sunset, with the ocean and a park nearby for walks or a simple picnic. Good restaurants and street food stalls were within walking distance, and having a rental car made exploring the island easy. Parking at the property was convenient too. The room and appliances, including the washing machine and fridge, were in good shape. A few things needed attention: the air conditioner was dusty inside, rust kept coming from the bottom of the shower wall, and the bathroom bidet didn’t work. There was a laundry hook on the veranda, but no rod to hang anything on. The female owner was friendly, but the booking details and what we found on arrival differed quite a bit. My friends and I were confused, and the person who had made the reservation with me was upset. I was also disappointed by the contract and insurance wording that insisted something might not work. Of course things can break, but I thought a replacement should be a reasonable standard, and they didn’t seem to see it that way. There were also discrepancies when I booked a combined swimming and diving experience, so I had to check the details carefully. Breakfast and dinner were good, but I’d expected two dinners and only got one. The trip itself was very satisfying; my main disappointment was the consideration shown by the people who prepared the accommodation. Aside from these issues, everything else was great.
