Pai Base Resort

The owner picked me up when I arrived at the Hirara Port bus stop on the airport bus from Shimojishima Airport, which made getting to the accommodation easy. Later, I cut my leg on coral while swimming, and they kindly gave me a bandage. Thank you! The room had nearly everything I needed, including a fridge, dishes and cooking utensils. And the ocean view from the room was a work of art. I was very satisfied with my stay.

The owners were so kind, and the place itself was great, from the location to the rooms. I stayed two nights from November 21, a little late to write this. They picked me up even though I arrived well before check-in, and waited despite my flight being quite delayed. We had a barbecue, and the rental was only 1,000 yen. They pointed us to supermarkets and markets locals use, so we bought inexpensive ingredients and had a Miyako beef party. The wind was really strong, which made it a lot of fun. I mostly went snorkeling, then on the second night we drove into town. Even though it’s far, driving in and taking a shuttle back was about 3,000 yen. There’s nature, beaches and starry skies here. For breakfast I had fruit and yushi tofu from the supermarket. I enjoyed two days and felt detoxed. Thanks so much. I’ll see you in spring. A few practical things for everyone: detergent is provided with the washing machine, so you can pack very few clothes. For groceries, go to the supermarket in town. There are small shops nearby if you’d rather buy something ready-made, but water and other things are really expensive there. They leave plenty of towels, so no need to bring your own. You can snorkel from the beach right in front.

We had such a relaxing time with the family here. The cottage is in a very quiet area with its own beach, right by the shore where sea turtles swim, so it was a lovely place for the kids to play in the water. We cooked vegetables and Miyako beef we’d bought, using the kitchen utensils and basics like salt, pepper and oil, then ate together at the garden table. Highly recommend it.

The beach is for guests only, which made this a nice place to stay with family, and there’s a lawn shower for rinsing off after swimming. My wife especially liked having laundry and drying facilities. The rooms are arranged in a square, with four in the building. A and C look straight out to sea, while B and D are set off to the side. We stayed in B or D for a bit more privacy, and those rooms were nice too. It’s out in the suburbs, a peaceful spot to sit and look at the ocean. I agree with the other guests’ reviews: it’s a wonderful place to unwind, with a quiet feeling you don’t get at crowded hotels or resorts.
