Amanohashidate Youth Hostel

Lovely view from this hostel, since it sits a little way up the mountain. The dorm rooms are clean, and the staff are friendly. A really nice place.

The dining room has a great panoramic view of Amanohashidate, which was my favorite part. We paid around 4,000JPY per person for a private room, so the ryokan felt like a good deal. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves as a group and could relax in the bath and dining room. It’s better to come by car. The supermarket is about 5 minutes away by car, and you can eat and drink in the dining room, though not in your room.

I had a comfortable one-night stay and got the room to myself. It’d also be a good spot to come with friends. The place is up a hill, so without a car you’ll have to walk up. There’s a shrine right beside it, plus free tea and coffee. The kitchen area has pretty much everything for cooking, including a refrigerator and microwave, and they sell beer and sake. Bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste if you have them, since those have to be bought there, and bath towels need to be rented.

The staff were really friendly, and the location is lovely. Just know there aren’t really any restaurants nearby. The house is super old, which I don’t mind, but water was dripping from the ceiling. Cleanliness matters a lot to me, and this place fell short: the rooms, community room, and bath were all pretty dirty. If you’re looking for somewhere cheap, they do have a community space with basic cutlery, a microwave, a kettle, and an area to cook. There’s enough there to look after yourself.
