We found this place while traveling between Kanazawa and Kyoto, and it turned into one of our most magical nights in Japan. The setting has a lovely view and a cute town, while the service feels timeless and the food is distinctive and traditional. It’s definitely pricey, but we were treated like royalty. Would recommend.

The owners were so kind and welcoming, and it was a pleasure to spend a night at their family ryokan, now in its eighth generation. I brought my Mum for her 60th birthday, and she cried when she first saw the room. She said celebrating here was one of the best days of her life. I’ve traveled to more than 30 countries and haven’t stayed anywhere as beautiful. The view is unmatched, the rooms are exquisite, the hospitality feels divine, and both the delicious food and onsens with their gorgeous outlook were highlights. Our stay at Genmyoan was absolutely sublime.

The outdoor hot spring was breathtaking, and the view was the best. Staff were really sweet and worked hard to communicate with us. The story behind this historic hotel is fascinating too. A once in a lifetime stay!
