Amanohashidate is easy to explore from here, and the quiet town gives the whole stay a retreat-like feel. The place itself is beautiful and calm, with immaculate, relaxing onsen baths and staff who were incredibly friendly and helpful. Kaiseki wasn't my favorite, though.

This was the most luxurious ryokan of the four I've stayed at in Japan, and also the most expensive. If you want to treat yourself for a night or two, Monjusou Shourotei is a great choice. The hospitality was excellent, with staff waiting outside for us on check-in day. Breakfast and dinner changed on each of the two days, and dinner was so generous that we skipped lunch the next day after having breakfast too. Everything we ate was delicious, and they were very accommodating of my partner's pescatarian diet. The rooms are huge, with amazing views even in fog and rain. They have lots of light switches with separate brightness controls, automatic curtains, floor heating in nearly every room, and separate air-conditioning controls for every room. The toilet was a neorest, and the bathroom tub started filling automatically when you opened the door to enter. The towels were from Imabari. They even asked us to take a couple home, along with our dinner chopsticks and the tabi socks provided with the yukatas. WiFi was extremely fast and reliable. Mosquitoes were the one real downside. From what I found when looking into ryokans in Amanohashidate, they’re a problem around town, not just here. The onsen had both indoor and outdoor baths, but when I stepped outside I saw lots of dead mosquitoes in the outdoor water. There was a net to remove them and leaves, but seeing that many put me off using the outdoor bath. I stayed indoors, including in our room, which was a letdown because the terrace looked nice. Luckily, we weren't bitten.

The ladies who took care of us were so attentive and kind, and the service was incredible. Our room was huge and beautifully decorated, and both dinner and breakfast were wonderful and carefully prepared. They even gave us two little bunnies as an engagement present. We plan to use them as cake toppers and proudly display them at home for years. Thank you for making our engagement weekend so special. The stay was flawless to me, and well worth the money for a special occasion. I can't imagine what the negative reviews are referring to. You'd have to be exceptionally picky to find something to complain about.

Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and felt special. The rooms are spacious, the views are beautiful, and everything was very clean. It surpassed our expectations, and we'd definitely return.

A lovely traditional Japanese-style hotel in an ideal spot beside the tour boats and bike rental shops. The staff were professional and friendly. The onsen was nice, though a little small. Highly recommended.
