SAGA International Guesthouse HAGAKURE - Hostel

The design has a nice, delicate feel. It’s a small place with a good atmosphere, and it’s less than a ten-minute walk from Saga station. I’d definitely stay again when I visit Saga. It would be even better if the staff could communicate in English more fluently.

A few days after my stay, I’m trying to piece together the details, but nothing really stands out. The rooms were on the second floor. One room is separated from the kitchen only by curtains. I got back late and hungry after the onsen, and had to eat in the kitchen, which was the only place to do it. I kept thinking the noise might bother the person in that room, which would be fair enough. One nice thing: this was the only guesthouse I tried during my month in Kyushu that offered a welcome drink and okashi.

Saga Station is only a six-minute walk away, and the owner and staff are really friendly. It’s a guesthouse with a bistro-style cafe, a very cosy place to spend time. There’s also a sake bar with lots of Japanese sake to try for a small minimum fee. They usually hold an International Festival every month. The rooms are new and clean, and the facilities are nice. The staff are especially friendly and lovely. Since the rooms are near the street and train tracks, it can get a bit noisy at night.
