Ryokan Takashimaya (kyoto)

We found the place easy to reach on foot from the station, and there’s a big department store near the shore. The rooms and hot spring area looked newly renovated, and everything was neat and clean. The bath is small, probably comfortable for two or three friends at most. We were lucky to get a room for one night in early March 2024, possibly the last one available through jalan. It’s a small hot spring hotel run by a group of lovely, friendly women. The food and service were both superb. We booked Plan name：Snow crab showdown in your room or private dining room, 2 crabs to take on!? ！？Most popular！！crab course plan♪. It wasn’t Taiza crab, and I’m honestly not sure what the difference is, but it was very good. I felt ill on our last morning, and the staff were so warm and kind that they made us feel at home. Thank you for hosting us. Hopefully we can bring the kids next time =]

The Japanese food tasted good, and the staff were very talkative and joked around with guests. The building is fairly small and sits beside a road. The men’s bath is on the top, the fourth floor. Rooms have tatami mats, so sitting on them all day may leave your back a little sore. There was also a lot of traffic from sightseers’ cars on the weekend.

So cozy, and the staff were lovely and helpful. :)

I ended up booking this inn for one night with breakfast after an unexpected trip, and it lived up to what other reviewers said. The breakfast was delicious, and I even went back for three helpings. The proprietress, her daughter, and the rest of the staff were so welcoming and gave excellent service. They clearly work hard to keep the facilities clean, which made the stay very comfortable. I’d definitely like to come again.
