Country Inn Canadian House

The guesthouse feels very homey, and the rooms are really spacious. Damon, Bailey, and Alex were all friendly, kind hosts. We appreciated the rides to the ski slopes and the supermarket. If we come back to Akakura, we’ll stay at Canadian House again.

Masao and Yasuko-san were the heart of our stay. They’re a kind, generous, easygoing couple, and both are excellent cooks. Almost every night they made us a delicious, healthy dinner, which felt like a treat. The dining room was comfortable and pleasant, and I imagine the view from it would be lovely at lunchtime. We also met other guests from Singapore who had good things to say about the place and its owners. We stayed from 16 Feb, 2025 to 25 Feb, 2025, and are coming back in Jan 2026. Phyllis & JC I don’t usually post reviews, but had to for Canadian House, Myoko Kogen. We booked late and searched hard for a room with an ensuite bathroom. My husband found one still available here, so we took it even though it wasn’t very close to the ski resorts. After a few emails, we were pleasantly surprised to learn they offer shuttles to the various resorts. The residence was clean, comfortable, and homey, and to our surprise had two private onsens.

The house has a lovely charm and was clean, tidy, and well maintained throughout. Its private onsens were especially satisfying after long, cold days on the slopes. Masao-san and Yasuko-san looked after us warmly. We had breakfast and dinner every day, and were delighted by the quality of the meals. They also provided shuttles to and from the ski resorts and train station. We hope we can stay with you again next year.

We’ve stayed with Masao and Yusako four times over the past nine years, and they’ve always looked after us like family. Saying goodbye at the end of a trip is always sad. Yusako is a wonderful cook, and every breakfast and dinner is beautifully presented. Soft music during meals adds a relaxing feel. The rooms are older but spacious, with lots of hanging space for coats and jackets. The bathrooms are the cleanest you could find anywhere. Masao provides a free shuttle at whatever time guests choose, always with a smile and plenty of energy. Donna Karlhuber.
