The hotel smelled unpleasant everywhere from the moment we arrived, and the whole property seemed old and worn. The owner gave me a bad feeling right away, and the atmosphere felt cold and cheap. I can’t understand how they charge so much for such low quality. Our nights were cold, there was noise throughout the place, and even basic communication was almost impossible. Asking where sandals were allowed turned into a maze of unclear rules. It was easily the worst part of our trip to Japan so far. We left within 24 hours, despite having paid for everything, and got no refund, as expected. Staying in such a horrible place felt impossible.

The family running this lodge went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, and the food and service downstairs were a perfect way to start and end a day in the snow. We had a wonderful trip with our two teenage boys and can’t recommend the place enough. This was our first visit to Japan from Australia, and staying here made it a perfect experience.

The room was spacious and clean, and even better than it appeared in the pictures. The local people were super friendly, and Hunter Lodge had everything we needed for a good stay.

We loved staying at Hunter Lodge. The private onsens were a lovely surprise, and there was a big room for drying gear. The staff were so kind, the rooms comfortable, and everything very clean. It’s close to the slopes too 🥰

Everyone at this family-run accommodation was kind and friendly. I was there for snowboarding, and especially liked the drying room, which was always tidy, clean, and warm. The room was cozy and clean, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. I had a great time and will definitely stay there again when I come back to snowboard.
