Even before ski season, we had a great time at Japan Snow Sports. My wife and I stayed for the last weekend of November and especially enjoyed a two-hour hike to Numonahara, a really cool nearby marsh with raised wooden-plank trails. We’re already thinking a ski-season stay is in our future, since the lodge would make an excellent base so close to the Madarao slopes. Dutchie, Annie, and the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The lodge has been beautifully renovated and feels warm and comfortable. You can tell they’ve put a lot of care into making it inviting over the past couple of years. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our stay at Japan Snow Sports and would highly recommend it. The host and staff were so welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. Dinner was a highlight, especially the course paired with wine. There’s also a small kids’ area with a projector and toys to keep little ones busy. Book ahead.

During our four-week snow trip in Japan, this was easily the best place we stayed. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. The lodge was warm and cozy, and kept to a high standard of cleanliness. Breakfast was great, with a different cooked meal each morning plus cereals, fruit, and juices. After skiing, the drying room was really handy for our gear. The hosts made a big difference. Monique looked after us most of the time, and she, the owners, and the other hosts were all friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They offered rides to the ski lifts, onsens, and nearby restaurants, and even picked us up at Iiyama train station, which made getting there much smoother. They can also help with lift passes, ski or snowboard lessons, and guided tours. The hospitality, facilities, and homely feel made this the highlight of our travels in Japan. We’ll definitely be back and recommend it to anyone heading to Madarao.

Breakfast was next level, with something different every morning, mostly made by Matt, and always delicious. We stayed at Japan snow sports for about six nights, and the whole place had a great atmosphere among staff and guests, thanks to owners Annie and dutchie. Everyone was super friendly. Tomi was always cheerful and made the stay amazing, and Lewis was a great snowboard instructor. I highly recommend him. The food was amazing too, both at yukis diner on Thursday night and for the Saturday night meal. I’d recommend either to anyone. We’ll definitely be back.
