The grilled megisu and fresh vegetables at breakfast were delicious. I was here for the Shin-etsu Gogaku Trail Run and arrived late at night, but they were very accommodating. The hot spring stays open all night, too. Thanks for the ride to Akakura Gymnasium.

The building is old, but it has charm, and the renovations have made it very clean. It still brings back the feel of Akakura from when I used to snowboard here several times as a student. My room was spacious, with a beautiful, open view of the Myoko Mountains and no tall buildings around. I bet the winter scenery is stunning. I was here over Golden Week, when the Akakura Onsen area was quiet rather than crowded. The price was reasonable, the food was delicious, and the hot spring water was superb and available almost any time. Akakura Onsen has about 200 years of history since it opened, which is a great setting for someone like me who loves hot springs. I went in many times, and it really helped wash away the stresses of everyday life.
