Kokoyui Guesthouse

We got a good rest during our four nights here. The house is in a peaceful spot right beside a famous surf break, and the host was so friendly, kind, and quick to respond. A charming place.

A really comfortable, tidy place to stay, with a proper Japanese feel. Most, if not all, of the facilities had descriptions or guides in English.

I spent two nights at Shimozato Building B for the Kumano Fireworks Festival. The fireworks were fantastic, and staying here made the trip feel even more complete. The owner was kind and shared plenty of suggestions, which put me at ease. The room was carefully designed and clean down to the little details. I slept soundly on the fluffy futon, and the renovated toilet and bath were sparkling and comfortable. It was also easy to get to Kumano Taisha Shrine, Yunomine Onsen, Hayatama Taisha Shrine, Nachi Taisha Shrine, Nachi Falls, Bokaido Onsen, and the tuna dishes in Katsuura. I’d definitely stay again.

We had a really comfortable stay, with most of the amenities we needed. It’s an old house, but the bathroom and toilet have been beautifully redone and feel brand new. Being close to the coast meant we could enjoy the blue ocean and Nanki’s World Heritage Sites. We were here for the Kumano fireworks festival and would love to come back. Thank you very much.
