Hotel Metropolitan Nagano

The room was plain and small, but very clean. The hotel is inside a mall, so food, pastries, and groceries are right there. Best of all, you can get from the hotel to your train platform in just a few minutes, which made it a great fit for staying close to transportation.

The room’s cooling system wouldn’t get below 25°C even though we set it to 18°C. It was 1°C outside, and leaving the windows open overnight only brought the room down to 23°C. That was the one real drawback. We’d stayed here for our honeymoon 11 years ago and had such good memories that we chose it again for a two-night stop in December 2025. Breakfast was an amazing spread, with Western and traditional Japanese food plus local apples, apple juice, and soba. There were so many choices that we skipped the tempura station. We also sent our luggage ahead with Yamato and left some bags before check-in; they had everything brought to our room after check-in. The hotel connects to Nagano station on level 2, and Zenkoji Temple is a pleasant walk away. The Togakushi bus counter, platform 7, is across the street by Donki, and the receptionist kindly showed us where to go. Thanks for looking after us. It was a wonderful stay, and we’ll definitely return.

The building feels quite old, but everything went well during my stay. My room was fairly spacious compared with what you might get in other big cities in Japan. The hotel connects to the station through the second floor, and breakfast had a generous spread with local delicacies.

I’ve stayed here several times and loved it. The train station connection and the clean, comfortable rooms, with everything working properly, make it an easy place to stay. What really stood out was how lovely and professional the staff were. They paid close attention in every situation, quickly recognized returning guests, and remembered their arrangements. I’d recommend it to anyone.
