The tatami rooms were spacious and immaculately clean, and the attentive, thoughtful service made us feel well looked after. Dinner and breakfast were both included in our package, which cost under $200, and the buffets were extraordinary in both quality and choice, on a par with what you’d expect at a five-star hotel. After a long day on the Nakasendo, the onsen was just as impressive, with a roomy indoor bath, a beautifully designed outdoor onsen, sauna, jacuzzi, and cold plunge. It never felt crowded, and there were free massage chairs on the second floor. Hotel Kiso-g is a little off the main trail, about three kilometers from the fork toward Tsumago-juku, but there’s a bus if you don’t want to walk the road. We walked without trouble. For hikers staying near Nagiso or beyond Magome-juku, I’d choose this over staying in Nagiso. It’s a slight detour, but you can still reach Tsumago-juku early enough to explore, then sleep, eat, and recover in comfort. Highly recommended.

The onsen was lovely, with a view of the alps, and the supper soba noodles were yummy. We enjoyed staying here as a family. The lobby felt warm and beautiful with the fireplace going, and having coffee, drinks, and snacks available all day was a nice touch. Dinner and breakfast were included, which worked especially well in winter when it got too cold and dark to go out. Would recommend :)

The Onsen is amazing, the property is really beautiful, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. But don’t come here if you need vegetarian, vegan, or halal meals, or have food allergies or other dietary requirements. The hotel says it can’t cater to these, as stated in its email response. The dinner buffet is huge, but the only hot vegetarian option was lukewarm pizza. The fried rice, Mapu tofu, and soups all contained fish, pork, or chicken. When I asked for something hot, the chef served chilled soba noodles with hot water and salt. I spoke with the manager the next morning and was promised hot Mapu tofu, miso soup, and something else for dinner. That night, the only special dish was cold soba with hot water, salt, and mushrooms. When I reminded them about the other promised items, the serving staff called the manager, and the manager, chef, and restaurant staff had a big disagreement. The kitchen staff refused to make anything else. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. A taxi to the nearest town, Nagiso, costs Yen 50,000 one way, and everything there closes by 5 pm. Bring your own food or choose somewhere else.

The room was hard to find at first. We were given instructions but kept getting lost, and it took us a while to figure out the way. After that, everything was fine. The dinner and breakfast buffets were excellent, and the lounge had a generous free flow of snacks and drinks that made us feel welcome and comfortable. It’s such a beautiful hotel. I loved the stay from beginning to end and wished we could have stayed longer. I’d definitely come back!

The food, onsen, and staff were all incredible. We booked what was supposed to be a three-star hotel, but it felt like a five-star stay. We had a fantastic time and are already eager to come back.
