Nakatani Ryokan

We had a business lunch here for entertaining guests. The portions were generous, every dish tasted good, and our guests were very happy with the meal. I’d like to come back to this restaurant.

The food was the highlight for me. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent, with every dish carefully made, and my children and I enjoyed it all. I’ve never had food this delicious on a trip before. It was served with a kind smile, and the atmosphere made the meals even more satisfying. I’d love to eat here again and will definitely stay another time. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome. We were greeted with smiles and iced tea, then had a spacious, relaxing guest room. The rakugan served with tea was delicious, and the tea itself was lovely. We also really enjoyed the hot springs. We happened to be there on a day when we could watch a kagura performance at the shrine in the evening and join the inn’s morning service. That was a wonderful experience, and I felt lucky to have been there. The stay felt full and rewarding, and so many happy coincidences followed during our trip. After checking out, we visited the Okusha shrine, then stopped at the souvenir shop beside the inn. The person who had prepared our meal the day before was working the register and said a few words to my child. That made me very happy. Thank you so much. The autumn scenery was stunning, and the location worked well for visiting temples along a well-known pilgrimage route. As in Japan generally, the welcome was impeccable, with an extra bit of family warmth that we really appreciated.

The meals were a real treat, with lots of local ingredients, and everything was delicious. Their soba was better than what I’ve had at nearby soba restaurants. I also tried their homemade Nozawana pickles with ginger, the best Nozawana I’ve ever tasted. This is a Shinto temple lodging, but it’s a magnificent inn. The atmosphere is lovely, and the rooms are spacious, with two rooms and a private bath. They let me use the bath privately both in the evening and again in the morning. It was the middle of winter and very cold outside. Everyone was so considerate that I felt warm inside and out. Guests who are interested can join the morning service. Taking part in Shinto services is rare, and I found it educational.
