Hotel New Green Plaza

The hotel is close to Nagaoka station, so it’s easy to find and quick to reach the JR lines. My room had nearly everything I needed, with WiFi and some extra options available. Details are on the website. If you’re lucky, you might see the Shinkansen arriving or leaving from your window. For stays of two nights or longer, the room is cleaned while you’re out. You get a breakfast ticket at check-in, and the front desk can provide more information.

The hotel service wasn’t proper, though the breakfast was friendly for foreigners.

This is a cheap option for people who just need somewhere to sleep. The bathroom had a musty smell, and the rooms felt old, dim, and generally dirty. Even the moment I came through the automatic doors, the heavy, gloomy atmosphere brought my mood down. The lobby, hallways, and rooms were all dark.

I was in Nagaoka City for a business trip and stayed here for one night. The hotel is only a minute’s walk from Nagaoka Station, so it was easy to find even on a busy work trip. There are plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. I ate dinner at a restaurant in the station building, did a little shopping, then headed back without any hassle. It was a nice change of pace. My room was the limited-edition non-smoking semi-double, 14 square meters. It was simply decorated and clean, with enough space for one person. The desk area was well set up for working on my computer and checking documents, and the WiFi handled online meetings smoothly. It also had the business-trip basics I’d expect, including a shower toilet and trouser press. The hotel itself is a little dated, though. The convenient location and good value made it a solid choice for work. I’d like to stay here again when I’m back in Nagaoka.
