Toyoko Inn Nagasaki Ekimae

We found the hotel comfortable and good value, with lots of useful facilities. There are vending machines, laundry, an ice and water dispenser, and complimentary drinks in reception since there’s no coffee or tea in the room. Breakfast is mostly Japanese with a few Western choices. The dining room is spacious, clean, and welcoming. It gets busy around 6:30 am, then quiets down by 7:30. We spent six nights in the newer tower. The location made getting around easy, with the JR station and major bus stops just a short walk away. Check-in and check-out were simple at a machine, though we missed having a warm greeting. The room was basic but did what we needed. The bed was very firm, with almost no spring, but comfortable enough. Not having a safe in the room was a small inconvenience. For longer stays, full cleaning is done every fourth day under the ECO program. Fresh towels and amenities are still available daily, which seems a little at odds with the program’s eco-friendly aim since those deliveries also take handling. Wi-Fi was unreliable at times, reception staff didn’t speak English, and the TV had no English channels, so a translation app came in handy. To us, the experience felt closer to 3-4 stars than the hotel’s modest 2-star rating.
