There are a few real positives: the place is quiet, wheelchair access is good, and there are lots of toys for children. Functional toilets are unusual for a Japanese B&B in this price range. The host replied fairly quickly and offered to clean again after I raised the issues. The bedding was clean, too. Still, the stay was very disappointing, especially after seeing so many positive reviews. I’ve stayed in more than 30 B&Bs in Japan, and this was the dirtiest. Hair and dust were visible across the floor, the clothes rack had a film of dust, and the dining table felt sticky. Several pieces of furniture were extremely worn and should be replaced. Even secondhand furniture I’ve seen in Japan was in better shape than the chair in the photos. The listing said there were three shower rooms, but two had stickers saying not to use them. We ended up trying one of those because the only approved shower was dirty and didn’t work properly. Hair was still stuck to the shower head, and the drain barely worked. After my second family member took a five-minute shower, water flooded the changing area and living room. I had to pull out a very greasy, dirty drain filter so the water could run out, then spend extra time cleaning up. The layout, wheelchair inside, and strong disinfectant smell also made the place feel more like a nursery or elder care home than a home or holiday house. I mean no offense to those places, but we were hoping to relax and feel on holiday, and the atmosphere here was very different. I think future guests should check with the host that the house has been properly cleaned and ask how many showers are working before they stay.
