Daiwa Roynet Hotel Nagoya Fushimi

The twin room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom felt fairly spacious compared with others. Since our room was close to the elevator, some soundproofing would have helped. The check-in took the shine off things: it took 30 minutes with the desk staff just to confirm my booking, and then I still had to use a machine to pay and get the key cards. First-time guests might be better off going straight to the check-in machine. There’s an onsen in the hotel, with lots of restaurants and convenience stores nearby.

The area was probably the best part of my stay. It’s convenient for restaurants and transportation. The room itself was cramped, and cleaning seemed inconsistent. The hotel felt cheap in places, with what seemed like stinginess over bottled water and toiletries. The rules around towels and cleaning were frustrating too: to get fresh towels, guests have to put the used ones in a bag outside the door before 10 AM, and cleaning also has to be requested before 10 AM. That felt too strict and not very guest-friendly. The Filipino maids were the bright spot. They were very kind, polite, and hardworking. I didn’t get the same level of hospitality from some of the other staff, especially some of the Chinese staff. That was disappointing compared with Japanese and Filipino staff I’ve encountered at other hotels. I chose the hotel because Daiwa Roynet is a popular brand with a reputation for quality in other countries, but this location didn’t live up to it. My experience here was worse than at other hotels, even cheaper ones. I expected more and wouldn’t recommend this particular property unless they improve the service, rooms, and how guests are treated.

The gender-separated public bath was the part I was most looking forward to during our one-night stay with my daughter. The water was clear and clean, and we could really relax and recover after a busy day sightseeing. They even offered free popsicles after the bath. The basic amenities helped make the stay comfortable, and the convenient location works well for travel or business.

There are plenty of Family Marts and good restaurants around, and the train station is only a few steps away. Service was good, and I chose this hotel for a planned 9-night stay partly because it has its own parking. One thing to know if you’re carrying big suitcases: there’s no lift or escalator up from ground level. Otherwise, everything’s fine. I also ordered things from Amazon, and the TV in the room reminded me to collect my package at the counter, which was pretty interesting.
