DEL style NAGOYA-NAYABASHI by Daiwa Roynet Hotel

The staff were polite and helpful, and the hotel’s color scheme gave it an interesting contemporary look. My single room was the usual small size for a business hotel. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with Japanese and Western choices. There was a standard-size fork, but it would be good to have standard knives and spoons too. Tea and coffee were available to pick up at reception, though I didn’t see toiletries. The bitter coffee was excellent.

The room was clean, but that’s about the only positive I can mention. We booked a standard double and it was extremely small. From the photos, we expected space to open at least one suitcase, but there wasn’t any. The bathroom took up about two-thirds of the room. The sink was by the entrance and used up a lot of space, while the toilet and shower were together with a bathtub. It felt like a really poor use of space. There was nowhere to store clothes or personal things, so we put our belongings in the toilet area, which was the most spacious spot. After a long day exploring Nagoya, we wanted to sit at a table to read or play a board game, but there wasn’t anywhere to do that. Apart from the small lobby, there’s no shared space at all. Don’t count on finding a table here.

The beds and pillows made for the worst two nights of sleep of my holiday. The mattresses felt hard, uneven, and uncomfortable, and the pillows were lackluster. It seemed like they’d cheaped out on the mattresses. I was fine with the small room, but its bathroom took up too much of the space and left very little room to move around. The hotel itself is vibrant and modern, with good amenities and very clean rooms. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the views are great if you get a high enough floor. I gave it just two stars because of the beds.

The clean, well-kept rooms are about as small as you'd expect in a Japanese business hotel. We walked 5-10 minutes from Fushimi-station. I chose a room with a bathtub, and it left space for little more than the bed. Rooms without a tub seem roomier. Breakfast is a buffet in the café next door. The food is good, but the café is small for the number of guests, so waiting is hard to avoid. The hotel is reasonably priced and could suit couples or friends looking for a budget stay.
