Hotel Palace Nagoya

It looks fairly new in the pictures, but while some parts have been renovated, the inside is mostly old and outdated.

The outside and indoor corridors are old, but the renovated rooms are stylish and very clean. My bed was large and comfortable, and the updated bathroom made bathing pleasant. There was a wider selection of amenities by the front desk than I’ve ever seen before. I stayed four nights and enjoyed picking some out each day after going out. The front desk staff were generally pleasant, and a few were especially friendly and warm, chatting with me about Nagoya specialties. The station is less than a ten-minute walk away. I liked strolling there when I didn’t have luggage, and used the shuttle when I was tired or carrying bags. I had a morning departure schedule, but after 3 PM they’d pick me up if I called from the station, which was very helpful. Laundry was free apart from the detergent, and I thought that was a great service. I’d like to stay here again when I visit Nagoya.

The location is quiet, about a 15-minute walk from Nagoya Station, and both the older woman and the man at reception were really friendly. The front desk and exterior may look old, but inside the room was very clean, and the bathroom was spotless. At 13,000 yen for two nights, it was incredibly cheap and great value. There were plenty of amenities to choose from, and I’d love to stay again. The only thing that concerned me was my house dust allergy. My nose got stuffy after I entered the room, so I wondered how often the rooms were cleaned and the linens laundered and changed.

The inside has been renovated and looks nice, and the price is low for this location. The outside of the building looks pretty old, though, and it made me uneasy when I first arrived. Service was average, and the amenity bar is a nice extra for women. I’d strongly suggest booking the wide-bath option. I’m a little shorter than an average woman and quite slim, but in the standard bath my elbows hit the walls and I couldn’t stretch my legs. Anyone of average size or larger, male or female, will probably find it cramped. I remember the wide bath being comfortable.
